Showcasing the Future of AI-Driven Sewer Inspection at Novatech Conference

The PIPEON Project’s latest research findings were presented at the prestigious Novatech Conference. Representing the project and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Franz Tscheikner-Gratl took the stage to share insights into the future of urban water infrastructure management.

The presentation focused on synthesized results from a series of PIPEON workshops, offering the audience a “peek into the crystal ball” regarding the integration of “thinking robots” for sewer inspection. As urban centers face aging infrastructure and increasing maintenance demands, the PIPEON Project is at the forefront of developing AI and robotic solutions designed to automate and enhance the accuracy of underground asset monitoring.

Organized by Graie, in partnership with the Métropole de Lyon and OTHU, Novatech is one of the world’s leading forums for sustainable urban water management. This year’s edition brought together more than 600 French and international scientists, decision-makers, managers, and designers.

The event served as a vital platform for the PIPEON Project to engage with global experts and contribute to a “common culture” of urban water management—one that prioritizes innovation, resilience, and the smart application of technology.
