PIPEON Project Enters Second Year and Results Phase Following Successful General Assembly in Tallinn

The PIPEON consortium successfully concluded its General Assembly meeting held on July 2–3, 2026, at the Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). The meeting served as a critical turning point for the initiative, marking the project’s official transition into its second year and the commencement of the phase dedicated to delivering tangible technical results.

Hosted by the School of Information Technologies, the two-day assembly brought together international partners, researchers, and stakeholders to review progress across all ten work packages. A significant highlight of the first day was the formal introduction of the new Project Officer, Rickard Bucksch, who joined the consortium to oversee the next stages of the project’s development. Under the coordination of Maarja Kruusmaa, the partners presented comprehensive updates on administrative, technical, and commercialization activities.

The primary focus of the first day centered on the strategic alignment of the project’s trajectory. Discussions covered future planning for joint experiments, upcoming publications, and the preparation of technical reports. Partners also explored commercialization activities, emphasizing the project’s commitment to translating research into market-ready solutions for urban water infrastructure.

The second day of the assembly featured specialized parallel technical tracks, reflecting the project’s multi-disciplinary approach. The first track focused on robot development and integration, specifically addressing the configuration and placement of sensors on the TG1 robot platform. Partners coordinated the integration of manipulators and locomotion systems in preparation for joint validation experiments scheduled for August and September. Simultaneously, the second track focused on advanced sewer modeling and data processing, refining the digital tools necessary for the project’s success.

The assembly concluded with a clear roadmap for the months ahead. By entering the second year, the PIPEON project is now shifting its focus from foundational research toward active deployment and the generation of actionable data.
